A few words to acknowledge those who enable us to have our sport – the volunteers and sponsors. And we hear from ID Chair Hugh Scott-Barrett and ID Secretary Kayti Harvey

With out sponsors, organisers and a huge amount of hard work and commitment, events like the Indoor Finals and the preceding season wouldn’t happen.  The culture of volunteering is an important one in horse sport, as it is in many activities, and it’s vital that those who help and contribute feel a sense of reward and appreciation too.

So, thank you to everyone who gives of their time with no monetary reward – the volunteers – and those who support events financially – the sponsors.  There are so many costs in staging horse sport and the entry fees alone don’t cover the venues to be hired, rosettes to be purchased, PA systems to be used, insurances to be paid, mouths to be fed etc. etc!

From Hugh Scott-Barrett, ID Chair –

Feedback from competitors and supporters has been really encouraging. There are still lots of things we can do to make the Championships an even better experience but I do believe that the Organising Committee, supported by a wonderful group of volunteers, have been able this year to create both a very welcoming atmosphere and a really good competition. It was wonderful to see Faye O’Hara compete. Truly amazing. You could also not have written a script in which the Supreme Champion, Ruby Gray is a very talented British Young Driver whilst the Reserve Champion, Lynn Riley, was the winner of the Veteran Class. That sums up the essence of Indoor Driving!

From Kayti Harvey, ID Secretary –

When you join an organisation with a strong heritage like ICD-UK, the need to maintain the original aim, to serve grassroots driving, is always in your mind.  I was humbled when co-founder Rita Bundock encouraged me to stand for election as her successor in the role of Secretary last year, very conscious that she had entrusted me with the incredible legacy she had built alongside Dick Carey. Julia Crockford and I have been very fortunate to work with Rita for the last 3 years organising the Championships, benefiting from all her experience and knowledge.  We are all very pleased with the positive feedback we have received after so many months of careful planning – I am sure my infamous lists helped!
